Emergency and Critical Care

The Centre for Animal Referral and Emergency offers an emergency and critical care service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, including all public holidays.

During an emergency consultation, our experienced team of emergency veterinarians examine, assess and treat pets with conditions that require urgent, out-of-hours attention.

Signs that your pet may require emergency veterinary attention include:

  • Severe gastrointestinal signs (vomiting, diarrhoea, loss of appetite)
  • Suspected toxicities, including rat bait, snail bait, chocolate
  • Trouble urinating
  • Snake and tick bite
  • Trauma-related injuries (dog fights, road traffic accidents)
  • Bleeding
  • Collapse

Advanced point-of-care diagnostic equipment facilitates prompt testing and assessment at the time of presentation. During the consultation, the vet will formulate a plan and discuss options for your pet’s diagnosis and treatment. If you have any questions, never hesitate to ask – we are here to make the experience for both you and your pet the best it can possibly be.

If the patient requires hospitalisation, they are admitted to the specifically intensive care hospital and are provided with 24-hour veterinary and nursing care. There is also access to our specialist services and advanced diagnostic imaging if required.
