Please visit our <a href=\"https:\/\/carevet.com.au\/wp\/24-hour-emergency\/\"><strong>24-Hour Emergency<\/strong><\/a> page.<\/p>\n<h3>Do I need to bring any information to my appointment?<\/h3>\n<p>Typically, your regular veterinarian will forward your pet&#8217;s clinical history, laboratory results, and imaging studies to us via email before your consultation. However, please consider bringing:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Any physical copies of X-rays or ultrasound studies provided by your vet.<\/li>\n<li>Short videos recorded on your phone if your pet experiences episodic symptoms.<\/li>\n<li>Current medications your pet is taking.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Important:<\/strong> Let our specialist nurse know your regular vet\u2019s name when scheduling your appointment, so we can contact them directly if required.<\/p>\n<h3>Should my pet fast before the appointment?<\/h3>\n<p>Fasting depends on the type of appointment and your pet\u2019s individual needs. Please confirm specific instructions when booking your appointment. General guidelines include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Abdominal ultrasounds or surgical procedures:<\/strong> Remove your pet\u2019s food after the evening meal the night before. Water should remain available overnight.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Pets with diabetes, very young pets, or those prone to low blood glucose:<\/strong> Do <strong>not<\/strong> fast your pet. Fasting is not recommended in these cases.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>What happens during the appointment?<\/h3>\n<p>Your specialist appointment will include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A detailed discussion of your pet\u2019s medical history.<\/li>\n<li>A thorough physical examination.<\/li>\n<li>Potential special tests or procedures conducted during the consultation.<\/li>\n<li>Discussion of diagnostic and treatment options along with a cost estimate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you decide to proceed with recommended procedures, you&#8217;ll sign a permission form and your pet will be admitted to our hospital.<\/p>\n<h3>What happens after my pet is admitted?<\/h3>\n<p>The procedure your pet undergoes determines their care plan. General information:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Procedures usually occur in the afternoon.<\/li>\n<li>If an ultrasound is required, we will clip your pet\u2019s fur in the specific region to improve image quality.<\/li>\n<li>We will keep you updated by phone during or after procedures.<\/li>\n<li>We\u2019ll schedule a discharge appointment or establish a care plan if an extended hospital stay is needed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>My pet is already in the ICU. What if their care transfers to another specialist department?<\/h3>\n<p>If your pet\u2019s care is transferred within our hospital:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The ICU veterinarian will contact you the morning of transfer to confirm your agreement.<\/li>\n<li>Depending on your availability, a face-to-face appointment or phone consultation will be arranged with the specialist.<\/li>\n<li>After evaluating your pet, the specialist will reach out to discuss the plan, usually later in the morning after appointments.<\/li>\n<li>The specialist becomes your primary contact and caregiver moving forward.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>CARE collaborates closely with your referring veterinary team and trusted partners to provide seamless patient care and optimal outcomes.<\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you require immediate assistance, no appointment is needed.
